BGC: Where everybody knows your (and their!) name

Sometimes, the Boys & Girls Club is perceived as an after-school daycare with little to no structure. When in reality, right after our members get off the bus, they head straight to the classroom for a healthy snack and Power Hour.

Power Hour is one of many programs our kids participate in once the school day is over. This specific program is meant to be educational with elements of fun! Our goal is for each child to complete their homework while at the Club with mentors to guide the lesson and a fully equipped technology, which many of our members do not have at home.

At the beginning of the school year, our youngest members started working on fluency and writing skills. At first, some could not write their names at all - but this week, ALL of the members were able to write their first names perfectly.

"Being able to get on a child's level and help guide them in the right direction academically is very important," said group leader Alyssa F. "With each member coming from different backgrounds, BGC sees each of their individuallity and assists them to build GREAT FUTURES."
