BGC FOOTBALL & CHEER LEAGUE!

FAQS

Where will practice be held?

Practices will be depend on your child’s football coach/cheer sponsor. They will inform you when they call to tell you which team/squad your child is on.

When will I hear from my coach or sponsor?

After school starts in August

When and where will games be played?

Games will be played on Saturdays (mornings and afternoons) and rotate around the area middle schools: Good Hope, West Ridge, Riser and Woodlawn

What do I need to purchase for my child?

Flag Football: The jerseys and flags are provided. Parents are responsible for shorts, socks, mouthpiece and cleats. The color shorts and socks will depend on coach’s preference in coordinator of jersey colors.

Tackle: Jerseys are provided. Parents are responsible for helmet, pants, pads, mouthpiece and cleats. It is recommended to purchase practice pants and practice jersey(s) also. Helmets and shoulder pads are in short supply nationwide. Do not wait to purchase these. Color of helmet does not matter as long as it fits appropriately, although white is preferred. Color of pants will depend on the coach’s preference in coordinator of jersey colors; however, white is the most commonly used and preferred.

Cheer: Uniforms, poms & bows

How are teams/squads divided?

FOOTBALL is broken into 4 divisions: Flag 1 (5-6 year olds), Flag 2 (7-8 year olds), Tackle 1 (9 year olds), Tackle 2 (10-11 year olds). Each team is school-based. However, if a school cannot fill a team, it will be combined with another school with low numbers.

CHEER is broken into 3 divisions: Cheerleaders will not be assigned to schools, but rather divisions. All cheerleaders 5-6 years old will cheer for Flag 1, 7-8 year olds will cheer for Flag 2, and 9 year olds and up will cheer for Tackle. Each week, the sponsor will choose a game in its respective division for its squad to cheer at. Cheerleaders will also practice and perform a halftime routine throughout the season and will perform at the Super Bowl in November.

When will the season start?

The season starts in early September.

How many games will be played?

The goal is for each team to play at least 6-7 games, potentially 8, if that team makes it to the Super Bowl (usually played the second week of November).
