Growing Up & Giving Back

"A little love goes a long way - even with our harder-to-reach kids. When you show them you care, they open up an inch at a time, showing a true expression of themselves."

Da'mon Moreland was a club member at BGC from 2nd to 7th grade. As he was growing up, Moreland realized his passion for helping younger kids which lead him to study elementary education at Louisiana Tech, where he is now a junior. Looking for a way to give back to his community, Da'mon returned to BGC as a counselor.

Moreland's favorite memory as a kid was walking to the community swimming pool every other day, which he said made him want to learn how to swim. Da'mon currently serves as the Safety Coordinator at the Club and feels so lucky to love his job at the age of 19, knowing some people never feel this way as they grow up.

"I just love it here. Everything we do is special and important to the kids. In a school setting, there's so much playing favorites - not here. It's just about the kids, all the time."
